Ben-Carr Blake, 87, a 52 year resident of Romeo, died Friday, March 31, 2023 at Troy Beaumont Hospital. He was born April 30, 1935 in Hackensack, N.J., the son of Dr. Roger and Mrs. Virginia Blake. He moved to Michigan in his early 20’s where he began his career in teaching at Kingsbury School, in Oxford. Soon after, he met Suzanne Scharer, his loving wife of sixty years.
Ben was a lifelong educator. He began teaching at the elementary level, but later moved on to high school and college. He taught many subjects, including history, French and computers. Always the avid reader, Ben could rarely be found without a book in hand. After retiring, he could either be found in his flower gardens, in the kitchen, cooking up soup, or in his favorite chair, with his cat and a book.
Ben was a true family man. He was the fifth of eight siblings, and is survived by five: Norris, Sandra, Randall, Geoff and Rod. He was the proud father of R.C. (Connie), Susie (Bob) and Laura (Alan) and honorary son, Tobi (Elke). His six grandchildren were the pride and joy of his life: Zoey, Peter, Maddy, Alex, Lizzie and Ben- Carr II. You would be hard pressed to find a tennis or lacrosse match, dance or violin recital or horse show that he missed!
Visitation will be held 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 15 at Henry Malburg Funeral Home; a service will be held at 1 p.m. A “Toast to a Life Well Lived” follows at Greystone Golf Course, 67500 Mound Road, Washington Township.
The family would welcome contributions to Take Root Dance Company, for their “Dance for Parkinson’s Disease Program.” https://donorbox.org/impacting-lives-through-dance
