Margaret Askew, 99, of Washington Township and formerly of Almont and Romeo, died Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2022. She was born Aug. 19, 1923 in Detroit, the daughter of Thomas and Ella (Beyers) Major. She married Andrew Askew in 1946 at Trinity Church in Detroit.
She graduated from Northwestern High School in 1941 and then attended Wayne State University where she received a degree in audio and then worked for several years with the Macomb County Health Department. She traveled the entire Macomb County testing elementary students hearing
Margaret was engaged to Andrew Askew before World War II and they were married after the war in 1946 at Trinity Church in Detroit. She and her husband were members of Romeo Church of Christ.
She is preceded in death by her late husband, Andy; son, Glenn Askew; daughter-in-law, Diane Askew and brother, Campbell Major.
Margaret is survived by her beloved children, Peggy (Bill) Grandstaff, of Romeo, and Phillip Askew, of Ray Township; grandchildren, Lisa Grandstaff of Washington Township, Erin (Dave) Nestle of St. Joseph, Sarah Grandstaff of Mt. Pleasant, Jason (Brenda) Askew of St. Clair Shores and Erika (Robb) Davis of Westminster, S.C.; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Brendan, Isabel Minnie, Emma, Portia, Alexis, Jacob and Nicholas; and great great-granddaughter, Adrianna.
Margaret is known for her kindness she showed all those around her and will be missed by many.
