LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

TO THE EDITOR:

Meagan Poznanski is the most qualified candidate to be elected Romeo Village President.

Meagan’s focus will be on both the downtown and the neighborhoods. She was an unpaid volunteer for the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) since 2014. She served as secretary, social media correspondent, promoted many family activities, and beautification projects. Meagan also believes that the citizens of the village deserve sidewalks that are not trip hazards and she had advocated for roadways that are repaired and maintained during her time as a trustee.

Meagan has served as a Trustee since 2016. During that time she sought education that would fully prepare her for this position. She has completed the following training at no cost to the taxpayers:

  • citizen planner
  • master citizen planner
  • planning and zoning essentials
  • general law village training
  • elected official college core training
  • public engagement
  • municipal budgeting workshop
  • budgeting best practices
  • rethinking local government budgeting
  • fiscally ready communities training
  • internal controls
  • grant writing and grant essen tials

This training will assist her in her plan to have flexible five-to-seven-year plans and fiscal strategies.

Meagan has been in attendance at Macomb County Board of Commissioners meetings and parks and recreation commission meetings speaking on behalf of the village residents. She has advocated for:

  • Keeping parks and recreation united in Romeo, Washington and Bruce
  • Keeping Romeo a village
  • Keeping the clerk and treasurer as elected positions

Meagan is committed to seeking information from other communities which have lost major manufacturing facilities and to use her grant writing skills to seek federal and state assistance to temporarily lessen the blow Romeo is facing. She will also seek communication with Ford Motor Company to access the future plans for the Ford Engine Plant.

Meagan believes in government transparency. She, along with Trustee Zach Fowler, instituted “Trustee Talks” to give residents an open forum to share concerns, ask questions and voice opinions. This venue also helped broaden citizens’ knowledge of the current issues being worked on by the village council. To further offer transparency, Meagan will ask council to approve the publication of minutes of the monthly village council meetings in a local newspaper.

Meagan will continue to support the Romeo Police Department and the department of public works insuring that they have the resources needed to serve village residents. This is another way her grant writing training will prove to be an asset to all residents.

Meagan Poznanski is ready, educated, and a positive change for the Village of Romeo.

TO THE EDITOR:

My husband and I moved to Romeo in 2009. Over the years I’ve gotten to know Meagan Poznanski pretty well. We were both so excited to be living in Romeo; but Meagan was always on different level than me… she really paid attention to everything going on in the village. She always wanted the village to be better. She always wanted to be involved and help out.

Meagan and I do not agree on every issue, personally or politically, but I know with her I have truth and trust. I want to vote for someone that has those qualities. She always listens and has some type of solution or compromise, even if she disagrees with me. I can’t attend many village meetings, but I want a village president that will represent me, my family. I want someone that will go up to bat for us. I want someone that will do what is right for the taxpayers.

Several years ago, Meagan and I attended a training together about budgeting. She took it very seriously and made sure she understood how everything worked. That was something that I really admired about her. I am a small business owner and realize the importance of budgets, planning and fiscal responsibility. The word “transparency” keeps coming up in this election and I know that we would have that with Meagan.

Meagan has the best interests of the community at heart. She is passionate about Romeo, she truly loves living here and being involved.

TO THE EDITOR:

As a dedicated trustee in the village, I am highly concerned about the condition of the sidewalk in front of the Romeo Masonic Temple and the possible safety hazards it poses for pedestrians. The pitch of the sidewalk from the corner, the location of the brick planter and the metal railing, barricading a high step, were all afterthoughts, as the project was rushed so it could be completed by the Peach Festival. After last week’s rain, a large puddle formed in front of that corner, revealing yet another mistake in the rushed project. The village president said she is not concerned about how this work was done and so far there is no plan in place to correct the problems. I am concerned that letting these mistakes go will only result in a tragic event for an unsuspecting person. I would like the public to be informed that the corner will most likely be icy and hazardous this winter.

Projects like this should be done right. That means planning ahead and hiring and collaborating with professionals who will take the time that is necessary to make things safe, not just completed before a festival. The sidewalk project could have taken place long before the Peach Festival was approaching for the safety of our Main Street pedestrians.

I called a special meeting to ensure the Romeo Village Park project would be handled correctly for the same reasons, and for the protection of the village asset. I also wanted to be sure the village taxpayers would not foot the bill for work that the non-profit was responsible to complete in the correct manner. So far I have not gotten the reassurance I was seeking from that meeting.

Responsible leadership is the only way to make sure things are done properly so the village taxpayers don’t inherit a problem they didn’t ask for.
