NOVEMBER 17 ISSUE ANSWERS (photo to right): This engraving can be found on the decorative edge of the 1859 Wall Map of Macomb and St. Clair Counties. The restored map is hanging on the wall of the Romeo Historical Society Archives Museum second floor research library. A series of buildings and homes of both counties circles the old map. The somewhat distorted shape of the image was caused by the odd angle of the camera. The engraving shows the Amos Palmer factory complex that was located approximately where Ace Hardware is now. Palmer manufactured and sold furniture in 19th century in Romeo. The museum has two dressers, one secretary and a dressing table all made in this factory. The museum also has a bed and a dressing table both manufactured in Grand Rapids and labeled on the side to be shipped to “Amos Palmer” for sale to a local Romeo resident. Visit the two RHS museums to see the Palmer furniture. R. Beringer, Romeo Historical Society staff
