Boxes of free dairy goods to be distributed

BY STACY SOBOTKA

A grant from the USDA is allowing the Four County Community Foundation to distribute farm to family “dairy boxes” to local food banks.

Prairie Farms Dairy is delivering 528 dairy boxes to Imlay City High School on June 3.

“The USDA gave out several grants to food producers in Michigan who agreed to create farm to family food boxes,” said Four County Executive Director Kathy Dickens. “I thought it was a neat gesture. It kind of put a local or Michigan commodity into the hands of families who could really use it now.”

The foundation is inviting food pantries or any organization that distributes food to come and take however many boxes they can use at 9 a.m.

At 10 a.m., after the initial distribution to food banks, families may come and pick up as many boxes as they can use.

Each dairy box contains:

  • Two gallons of 2% Milk
  • Two 14 oz. Chocolate Premium Milk
  • Two 14 oz. Strawberry Premium Milk
  • One 16 oz. Sour Cream
  • One 16 oz. French Onion Box
  • One 24 oz. Cottage Cheese
  • One 8 oz. Cream Cheese

LaGrasso Brothers Produce will also be there providing 15 pound produce boxes.

Imlay City High School is located at 1001 Norlin Drive.
