The following government entities have announced closures in order to comply with the National State of Emergency declared by President Donald J. Trump and State Emergency declared by Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
The states of emergency were declared to stop an outbreak of the coronavirus known as COVID-19.
SCHOOLS
All public schools including Almont Community Schools, Armada Area Schools, Romeo Community Schools, Rochester Community Schools and Utica Community Schools are closed until at least April 13. Administrative offices will remain open.
Teachers and administrative staffs are working to provide at-home lessons for student. Administrators are also exploring the possibility of distributing or providing food to students that receive free school lunches. School officials advise parents to stay alert for additional information.
LIBRARIES
The Addison Township Library is closed until further notice.
The Armada Free Library is closed through March 31.
The Romeo District Library has closed both the Graubner and Kezar branches to the public and cancelled all programs through March 31. The library staff will be available by telephone or Internet. The Romeo District Library plans on providing curbside service for picking-up and dropping-off materials.
PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT
The Romeo-Washington-Bruce Parks and Recreation Department has closed its Romeo and Washington centers to public events and cancelled all programs that are not hosted at a private venue through April 13. The office remains open during normal business hours for additional information, registrations or questions. It is suggested to telephone before attempting a visit to the office. All parks remain open to individual use.
STAR
Senior transportation is limited to essential trips and doctor appointments only.
METROPARKS
The Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Authority, which manages Lake St. Clair Metropark, Stony Creek Metropark and Wolcott Mill Metropark, has cancelled all public programs as well as closed public venues such as the nature center through April 5. The parks remain open for individual use.
POST OFFICE
Local post offices remain open and mail delivery continues under guidelines and precautions set forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
GOVERNMENT OFFICES AND MEETINGS
It is suggested to contact government agencies before making a trip or planning to attend a meeting to confirm policies and procedures. It’s recommended that residents conduct business with government offices by phone, Internet or mail.
