For the fourth year, Starkweather Arts Center, led by Peggy Grandstaff, has raised money for hunger by making and selling clay bowls in their clay studio. This year $3,803 was presented to the Rev. Marcus Akles of Second Baptist Church in Romeo. Pictured left to right, holding samples of the creations are Admire Akles, Sandra Akles, Tina Womble, Grandstaff, Akles, Melissa Akles and Becky Smith at the Second Baptist Church. Not pictured are volunteers Joyce Kilpatrick, Joanne Caruana-Hayes and Jeanette Zaporski. Prior recipients of the fundraiser have been Samaritan House, Agape Center and “His Table” at the Methodist Church. Over the summer, artists paid $3 to create a bowl. In the fall, during Romeo’s Art and Wine Walk, the finished bowls were sold for a minimum $5. (Submitted photo)
