PUBLIC NOTICE – VIILAGE OF ROMEO SUMMARY OF ORDINANCE SNOW EMERGENCY ORDINANCE

The Village of Romeo enforces Ordinance #539 for Snow Emergency Parking. Inclement winter weather impedes the movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic and creates public safety concerns. To address these concerns, the Village of Romeo, Michigan engages in various efforts to reduce or eliminate the accumulation of snow and ice upon public roadways, including the salting and snow plowing of the roadways.

In order these efforts to be effective, the public roadways must be clear of parked vehicles, which constitute an obstruction of the Village’s efforts and contribute to the public safety concerns caused by inclement winter weather when such vehicles cause portions of the public roadways to remain unplowed. This ordinance is intended to ensure increased public awareness of the problem and to require motor vehicle owners and operators to remove their vehicles from public roadways when a snow emergency occurs, thereby furthering public safety and welfare, and reducing the undue roadway safety risks caused by the accumulation of snow and ice around parked vehicles.

Sec 38-110 of Article 38 SIDEWALKS, Removal of Snow, Ice, Filth, Obstructions, Encroachments, Encumbrances or Other Nuisances from Sidewalks. It shall be the duty of every owner, agent or occupant of any lot or parcel of ground adjacent to or abutting any sidewalk to keep the sidewalk free from snow, ice, filth and all obstructions, encroachments, encumbrances or other nuisances. Snow, ice, filth and all obstructions, encroachments, encumbrances or other nuisances shall be removed from the public sidewalks adjoining the property within 24 hours of the accumulation or placement of snow, ice, filth and all obstructions, encroachments, encumbrances or other nuisances on the sidewalks.

To address these concerns, The Village of Romeo, Michigan engages in various efforts to reduce or eliminate the accumulation of snow an ice upon public roadways, including the salting and snow plowing of the roadways.

A true copy of the ordinance is on file at the office of the Village Clerk located at 121 W. St. Clair, Romeo, MI 48065, and is available for public examination Monday-Thursday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
