The Record celebrates 9 years of publishing

BY LAWRENCE SOBCZAK, PUBLISHER
and CHRISTOPHER ROSE, GENERAL MANAGER

In your hands you’re holding our 460th issue and a little bit of normalcy.

For the past nine years people have been telling us there is nothing like the feel of holding an actual newspaper in your hands and we agree.

There’s a certain pleasure in turning the pages to read about local news. We’re your best source in the community for that.

Only with an actual newspaper can you grab a pencil and open up to the features page. Our Weekly Sudoku and Sunday Crossword are some of the best in the industry.

We’re a pleasant departure from a stressed-out and over-digitized world.

We deliver printed newspapers each week to our primary areas of Addison, Armada, Bruce, Oakland, Ray and Washington townships as well as the village of Armada, Leonard and Romeo.

That’s 216 square miles where we cover the news.

Our readerships goes well beyond that core area. People have taken out subscriptions in nearby areas such as Almont, Macomb Township, Richmond, Rochester and Shelby Township.

It goes even further — there are subscribers in 31 states and the District of Columbia that get The Record delivered to them each week.

What do you get each week?

We provide local news, sports, a weekly calendar, obituaries, history, community announcements, events and more.

There’s a classified section to sell and buy from your neighbors. The ads are an excellent way to find local work or hire someone locally to do the work for you.

We publish four season-themed magazines each year as well as a Community Guide and the Peach Festival Magazine.

The Armada Fair, one of the largest and most beloved country fairs in the state, gets its own special section too.

In late May and early June, we celebrate the graduates of Romeo High School and Armada High School by publishing their individual pictures in a special section.

If you were to lay down each page of the newspapers we’ve printed end-to-end since that first day nine years ago, it would stretch nearly 1.9 miles!

Our website has more than 12,000 original stories on it — we don’t repost other’s stories.

The amount of content we’ve been able to provide each week has been accelerating too.

Since 2018, each regular edition has 25 percent more pages on average each week.

If you’re a subscriber, we proudly say we could not have built this newspaper without you. Thank you.

You are the most curious, engaged and informed people we have ever met.

Our advertisers know that about you too and they have joined the club contributing to our phenomenal growth with their support.

This holiday season, share the good news with friends, relatives or a neighbor by sending a gift subscription. (Don’t worry, if they already have a subscription, we will extend it by the amount of your gift.)

If this is the first time you’ve read this newspaper, join the local journalism movement by subscribing today.

Visit myrecordnewspaper.com, call 586-752-3524 or use the return envelope in the newspaper to begin receiving The Record each week.

We’d love to brag more about this amazing accomplishment that we’re all a part of with you, but it’s time to get back to work, roll up our sleeves and start writing the next 52 issues which will make up volume 10 of this local newspaper.

Thank you again for your support allowing us to report on, serve and cheerlead this wonderful community.
