Wenrick Response: As is shown by the following quotes and future quotes in next week’s paper, Romeo, very early, has had a big interest in baseball not only by youth groups, but between various organizations, businesses, communities, states, even nationally. Romeo had a Bradley Cigar Factory, so it is presumed the team in the quote below was from this company. The Union school boys were the district school students. “The return game of baseball between the cigar makers and Union school boys is to be played next Saturday afternoon.”-The Romeo Observer 1874 In 1909 The Observer states, “Two games will be held at the driving park in the village on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Armada will play both games with (Romeo’s) Ford Motor Company team (on West Lafayette St.) Admission 25 cents; ladies admitted free.” Nationally speaking: Romeo’s Frank Bowerman in the photos above played baseball professionally for the Baltimore Orioles, N.
