Kenneth E. Byrd, 76, of Almont, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born Jan. 4, 1947, the son of Rubin and Stella (Pinion) Byrd in Mayfield, Ky. Ken met the love of his life, Judy Davis and they were married in August of 1965.
Ken graduated from Lowes High School in Kentucky and completed the electrical program at the Detroit Electrical Trade Center and became a master electrician. He worked and retired from Motor City Electric and was a member of the IBEW Union for 41 years.
Ken liked the outdoors and hunting in Iron Mountain and out in Wyoming. He and his wife enjoyed traveling to Naples, Florida and Hawaii. Ken was a car enthusiast. But most of all Ken enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, frequently attending their sporting events.
Ken is survived by his daughters, Kelly M. Draper of Washington Township, Tracy L. Tekmen of Lewes, Del.; son, Todd D. Byrd (Tamara) of Washington Township; six grandchildren, Jeffrey T. Draper, Sydney (Tyler) Mrowczynski, Elliott Byrd, Yashar Tekmen, Aileen Tekmen and Adem Tekmen; three great-grandchildren, Summer Tekmen, Aspen Roberts and Aurora Roberts; sister, Joyce Cox of Mayfield, Ky.; and brother, James Byrd, of Mayfield, Kentucky.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Judy and his brother-in-law, Bobby Cox.
Friends and family will gather at Muir Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center, 2650 South Van Dyke Road, Imlay City, MI 48444 at 10-11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 2 with a memorial service at 11 a.m., followed by a memorial luncheon at 12 p.m.
Burial will be made at Ferguson Cemetery, 4471 Kidder Road, Almont, MI 48003.
