DECEMBER 7 ISSUE ANSWERS: This beautiful old house belonged to James J. Crissman and is on the west side of Mound Road in Washington Township. James came to Oakland County, Michigan in 1836, from New Jersey, with his brother. Soon after that he moved to Washington Township in Macomb. He married Mary Parish in Washington Township in 1845. He purchased 286 acres in sections 3, 20 and 22 on which he built his house. The museum staff described his house architecturally as a Greek Revival, c.1846-1848. The two story veranda is rare and was frequently used for an inn, not a private residence. The main house has a massive entablature under the eaves which on each end terminated on the gabled ends. The rare pilaster moldings frame the windows, sidelights and door. R. Beringer, Romeo Historical Society staff
