NOVEMBER 9 ISSUE ANSWERS (photo to right): This advertisement for the Clipper Lawn Mower Co. in Dixon, Ill. Described the same mower we found in the Clyde Craig Blacksmith Museum. We recently had it restored by a professional conservator. After cleaning years of old dirt and fashioning a few replacement parts, Mark found the original red paint on it and discovered it still can cut grass. The ad reports, “(The mower) will kill all the weeds in your lawns. If you keep the weeds cut so they do not go to seed, and cut the grass without breaking the small feeders of roots, the grass will become thick and the weeds will disappear. THE CLIPPER WILL DO IT. Please send Draft or Money Order or Registered Letter.” The museum staff was told that the Romeo Cemetery crew used this mower to trim around the Romeo Cemetery memorials. Pushing this mower would entail much effort. We currently have it in the back room of the Church Street museum for our “Romeo Without Electricity” display. There is even fake grass under it. R.
