The top after being opened is swiveled 90 degrees and is now supported by the base. Games or a card game can now be played as chairs are placed around it. The folded position of the table does not take up as much room in the home, much like modern folding card tables. Some when opened revealed leather tops with designs for various types of games. This table most likely belonged to Washington Irving, the author of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Romeo Historical Society staff This table was willed to me by my grandfather, W. Irving Clark, whose mother was a Miss Irving. It was given to him as a wedding present by a nephew of Washington Irving when Irving’s house, Sunnyside, was broken up.
