AUGUST 25 ISSUE ANSWERS (photo to right): “That is my Fordson tractor, I mean Lori’s tractor. She took unexpected delivery of the tractor. It is sitting in our front yard. She saw it coming down the driveway, oh my gosh!” Lori and Tom Brubaker The Fordson was a name of Ford and Son Inc. produced during 1917-1920 and later in the U.K. from 1920-1928. During WWI tractors from Ford were shipped to England to help with the shortage of food. Because many of these tractors went to the bottom of the ocean by German forces, the U. K. started producing them at home in factories away from London. These Fordson tractors were heroes of the war. The tractors ran on three types of fuel. Kerosene was held in the large top tank. A small side tank used gasoline to start the tractor. The TVO or tractor vaporizing oil was not readily available as a fuel. The 20 horse power, in-line, four cylinder engine did the work. There are three of these Fordson tractors on display on September 18 at the Romeo Historical Society barn tour. One of them is equipped with tracks. R. Beringer, Romeo Historical Society staff
