MAY 26 ISSUE ANSWERS (photo to right): This old picture shows the Washington Hotel in Washington Township on the east side of Main Street. It was replaced by the Weir brick block. The Romeo Observer suggests that this was taken on a Sunday afternoon because everyone in the photo looks to be dressed in their best “Sunday go to meeting” finery. The town pump is located in front of the hotel to the right. In other photos the pump is moved to the left side of the building. Later this building became the Central Meat Market in the left part of the building and a harness shop was located in the right part of the building. There are no electric lines to the building. This is what early towns looked like with wooden structures which were later replaced with brick for fire safety. Romeo Historical Society staff
