APRIL 28 ISSUE ANSWERS (photo to right): This 1914 photo is showing the Van Renssler residence on North Main Street in Romeo. Currently there is a veterinary clinic in that location. Van Renssler lived there until his death in 1847 and his wife lived there into the 20th century. In 1912 Charles Casey, a grocer, acquired the home. Architecturally, this 1844 fine Greek Revival might have had the finest entrance in the village because of the Greek ionic columns that flank the door and the ionic pilasters that frame the classical entry. The original 6 over 6 windows had been replaced with 20th century windows. The original entablature moldings and pediment details were retained. The three steps of the Greek temple are evident. The Roman buildings always had many steps for an entry. R. Beringer and R. M. D.
